
Charlie
Charles "Charlie" Cornelius was born on November 15, 1921, to Henry and Ella Mae Cornelius. He grew up with his brothers Curtis, Samuel, and David, and his sisters Nellie Sanders, Lela Mae Tatum of Texarkana, AR, and Geneva Henry of Bakersville, CA. He was a loving father to Alvin McCray, Cornell Cornelius, Charlene Cornelius, Doreen Cornelius, Annette Cornelius, and Alfred Cornelius.
Charlie was a dedicated member of Red Springs Baptist Church, where he served as Captain of Poor Saints, a role in which he tirelessly helped the needy. Later, he joined New Town Baptist Church. Charlie served his country in the US Navy from October 28, 1943, to March 6, 1946, aboard the USS Lander. After his military service, he worked at the Red River Army Depot and the Texarkana Water Company.
Charlie passed away on April 29, 1980. His funeral service was held on May 3, 1980, at New Town Baptist Church, and he was laid to rest in Red Springs Cemetery. The arrangements were handled by Richardson Funeral Home. Charlie Cornelius’s life was marked by service to his community and country. He is remembered for his kindness, dedication, and the positive impact he had on those around him.
